Be Careful Little Eyes What You See...

I have been going back and forth on whether or not to write this post.  Talking with my mom and praying about it.  Then this morning while reading one of my school books War of the Worldviews, I felt a resolve.  God confirmed it in my heart that once again, I must write something no matter the cost.

I will start with my confession:

I have watched several episodes of Once Upon A Time.  
I had several friends and family refer me to this show, saying that this was a wonderful series.  I had looked at "Christian" reviews:
"On the show, our real world intersects with a mythological one in mysterious ways. The show's characters, all from popular fairy tales, live in a world without happy endings because they are all under a curse (echoes of Genesis 3). Hinting at a cosmic battle, the main antagonist, the evil queen of the Snow White story, has cursed the entire fairy-tale world in order to get revenge on the protagonist, Snow White, and has sent its inhabitants to our world. Snow's daughter, Emma, who came to our world as a baby, can break the curse and save everyone; characters in the show even call her "the Savior." She is awakening people to a knowledge of the battle in which they are engaged and their true identity, and weakening the power of the curse"-Christianity Today
Once has its faults. Characters here fight, bleed and die. Some of them swear. Costumes can be immodest. Casual intimacy is sometimes shared. The temptation of marital infidelity (in the name of "true love") has been a theme. The use of magic—some of it dark—is, of course, nonstop.

But it also sets up strong distinctions between good and evil. It gives us characters who seem to care about one other. It even provides for us the occasional bedtime moral. And, most importantly, through its fairy tale proxies (if we look really, really closely), the series communicates a very important truth: We're all more than we seem. We can be better than we are. In the midst of our pain and suffering and workaday lives, there's an actual fairy tale to be found—not a fictional construct, but the understanding that our lives are wondrous, miraculous and highly improbable gifts." -Plugged In (Focus on the Family)

and had watched some trailers of this series and thought that I would try it out.
And so it began....
I watched a few episodes, and got a little hooked.  Then I invited my mom to come and watch a few episodes, she agreed, watched a few episodes, and got a little hooked.....  Until we were watching an episode that was basically teaching us how to perform spells!!  My mom and I looked at each other astounded,  we asked each other what exactly were we watching, then decided to take a fast and pray about this show.  By the grace of God, He revealed to both of us that in this "wonderful" series there is:

Children before marriage,
Hebrews 13:4
"Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral."

Leviticus 20:6
"'I will set my face against anyone who turns to mediums and spiritists to prostitute themselves by following them, and I will cut them off from their people."
Deuteronomy 18:10-12
"Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is an abomination to the Lord."

Exodus 20:13
"You shall not kill." 

Proverbs 12:22a
"Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord:"

Matthew 7:15
"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves"

Hebrews 13:4

And Blasphemy,
Luke 12:10
And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but the one who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.

This just one of MANY shows that should cause us, especially as believers, to step back and ask if what we are watching really glorifies God.

Hunger games is another one.  
Again, I was given these books to read by a friend.  Just the fact that they were addicting and I couldn't get enough should have been a giant red flag!!  Anything that is taking my mind off of the Lord becomes an idol or an obsession.
If we love the Lord and He has given us a new heart, really...shouldn't there be evidence in our lives?  Shouldn't we be seeking after Him and our obsession to be more like Him?
Psalm 119
"Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord! Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart, who also do no wrong, but walk in his ways! You have commanded your precepts to be kept diligently. Oh that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statutes!"
Philippians 4:8
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

After watching the first movie, and my mom came in to watch a part of it with me...she and my Grandma Darci later approached me with their concerns.
For this movie, even though we can't pinpoint exactly what or why we had that feeling...but the simple fact that it was consuming my thoughts and taking up space in my heart that should have been reserved for Christ was enough for me to choose to air on the side of caution.  
Better safe than sorry!!

Once again, I was able to take a step back, seek the Lord and come to the conclusion that I know comes from God.  
Why waste one single minute on things that don't glorify God?

Many more shows (music as well) that I have not been exposed to but that come to mind are Harry Potter, Charmed, Walking Dead, Twilight, a LOT of the Disney shows, the Fosters, Pretty Little Liars, Rodeo Girls, Long Island Medium, Glee ...the list could go on and on.

Lust is HUGE on many of these shows and we are warned over and over in scripture about lust!!
1 Cor. 6:18
"Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body."
1 Thes. 4:4-5
"For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God"
What do you see when you look at the characters?
What are they WEARING?!?!

One question I would like to ask you.  Who do you look up to...who do you go to when you need a word of wisdom?  Who is handing you books, recommending you movies, letting you listen to music?  Are they looking to please the Lord with their own lives? Are they seeking  self-pleasure or do they have an eternal purpose?
Do you go to the bible first and formost?  Are you praying about the influences you allow in your life on a daily basis?

I say all of this knowing that I am far from perfect.  Our family is far from perfect.
However, one thing I am learning is that the love of Christ is very different than the love the world teaches.
I am a part of Voice of the Martyrs and that has shown me that true love (the love of the Father) is not some mushy love.
It is laying your life down and telling the truth even if it means the cost of a friendship.
It is warning people even if you know it will be unpopular.
It has an eternal perspective. 

I don't want to love you here on Earth and not see you in Heaven...I want to love you ENOUGH (the love of Christ) that we go together.

I wish I had been warned before.

A note from my mom:
I am a people pleaser...this is especially true when it comes to my children.  I want to be cool and I want them to love me!!
Often times, costing more than I could ever imagine, Phil and I have allowed things we might have thought could be bad exposure for our children.  And on a few occasions, because the source had been a trusted one, we allowed our children to watch or read something we did not censor.  
Praise God that He protected our children and that He gave wisdom and sent out those red flags. 
We have grown so much in the past few months ( I am guilty of watching and reading things that absolutely should not have been read and watched...did nothing to edify my life...if nothing else, it was destructive for myself, my marriage and my family) and are weeding out all of the junk that has cluttered our lives.  Thanking God that He has captivated the hearts and minds of our children and many times it is THEM that have discernment for people, reading material, music etc.  I am humbled and realize once again the grace and mercy God has on me and our family.
We will never be where we want to be...but our prayer is that we continue to seek the Lord and our main goal would be to bring Him glory.
I was nervous when Gabrielle told me she wanted to write this.  #hopelesspeoplepleaser BUT her heart is GOOD and she has an urgent desire to see a #tidalwave #reformation in her #generation...a generation #radical for Christ.
By writing this, I am aware that she has put herself and our family under a microscope and for the first time, I can say that that is okay.  If you see anything in us that does not bring glory to God...and if it lines up with scripture, I would agree with my daughter. Please warn us...I will have wished we had been warned before.

I pray for Phil and I that we would have the same boldness that we see in our children.  Unafraid of rejection here on Earth.  How costly that fear is.

All those thoughts run through my mind when I want to take a stand for the Lord.  "They will hate me"... "they are going to kill me" even as an adult.  A Christian for 20+ years.
Well, an eternal perspective would say right back,
then let me die.

Creation Science Week (Day 3)



If you watched the big debate between Bill Nye and Ken Ham, you might have wondered why Mr. Ham didn't drop fact after Scientific Fact as proof of God's existence as he usually does?

The evidence is there....all Science points to a young Earth. Evolution has yet to prove Creation wrong and continually uses theory to "prove" their facts.
Mr. Ken is an amazing Creationist with an amazing team and THEY KNOW their facts.
It is all over their website which I highly recommend you using as a resource.

Perhaps (and I very strongly believe) that Mr. Ham saw the bigger picture.
Before facts will ever prove to a world defiant towards God...
something has got to happen.
"So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."
Romans 10:17

Mr. Ham all born again believers, that God is the Creator of everything.
He KNOWS he cannot prove this to a world seeking to prove that He does not exist.
AND taking the bible literally (which he was bashed because he kept referring to it), He KNOWS that FIRST, faith is required.
"The fool has said in his heart, 'There is no God.'  Psalm 53:1
"Fools mock at sin, but among the upright there is favor." Proverbs 14:9
"For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools..." Romans 1:20-22
Mr. Bill Nye...with all due respect, there is no one innocent.  No one.

Thank you Mr. Ham....millions of  unbelievers just heard the gospel!!
Now onto our next day of study...animals!!

Fun Fact...did you know that the elephant is genetically closest to a little creature called the Hyrax.  Looks like a big mouse!!  

We will be going to my Aunt Katy's today, we share animals with her and she is very kind to keep many of them at her house.  She only lives one mile...our 2nd closest neighbor!!
We will be going over today to do physical exams on all the animals.  This is especially exciting for me as I am studying to become a vet.
We will be checking teeth, eyes, feeling for abnormalities on the skin, taking hair samples etc.
I encourage you to do the same.  You don't have to have a, dog, fish...a neighbor's animal perhaps?
